Detailed introduction
The Columba jouyi was an extinct pigeon species found in the Okinawa Islands, Japan. They were last seen in the islands in 1904, and disappeared from the westernmost island after 1936. While it is believed they may still exist on some of the surrounding islets, this is not confirmed. Theoretically, suitable habitats for the Columba jouyi still exist in the mountainous regions of the Okinawa Islands. The most perplexing case is Tokashiki Island in the Kerama Islands, where the Columba jouyi has never been found, despite most of the area remaining undeveloped. Zamami Island is the furthest and smallest island in the Okinawa Islands where the Columba jouyi was once found.
