Distribution and Habitat
Some hummingbirds also live in wet swamps. The Blue-capped Hummingbird is found only in the Americas, from southern Canada and Alaska to Tierra del Fuego, including the West Indies. The Black-throated Northern Hummingbird is the most common species in western United States and Canada. Only the Red-throated Northern Hummingbird breeds in eastern North America, but individual members of other hummingbird species ("accidentals" in birding jargon) can also be seen in eastern North America, sometimes as nomadic groups from Cuba or the Bahamas.
Appearance
The blue-capped hummingbird's plumage is generally blue or green, with a paler underparts. Some males have a crest or long tail feathers. The vast majority of males are blue-green, but some are purple, red, or yellow. The female's plumage is duller.
