A hummingbird endemic to Colombia
Distribution and Habitat
The Gloytail Hummingbird inhabits a small area on the Pacific slopes near the Andes Mountains in the western part of Cauca province in southwestern Colombia. During a visit to the western Andes in 1999, Mazariegos and Salamán discovered other suitable habitats for the Gloytail Hummingbird.
The Rainbow-legged Hummingbird typically inhabits humid forests and forest edges in subtropical regions at altitudes of 2200–2440 m. It can forage on the ground at elevations of 2–4 m or higher.
Appearance
The Rainbow-legged Hummingbird (Eriocnemis mirabilis) is 9-10 cm long, with slightly black wings and pink feet. It is one of the 335 species of hummingbirds.
Detailed introduction
The Colorful Puffleg (scientific name: *Eriocnemis mirabilis*) is a hummingbird endemic to Colombia. Specific habits are unknown.

The Glorious-legged Hummingbird inhabits a very small area in southwestern Colombia. Its global population is unknown, as the total area of suitable habitat for the species is less than 10 square kilometers. Its numbers have been reduced by deforestation of its mountaintop shrublands for agriculture and illegal coca plantations. Illegal coca cultivation is the biggest threat, causing an average of 8.3% of suitable habitat to disappear each year.
The Gloydish-legged Hummingbird is one of the world's endangered species and is listed in the United Nations' List of Endangered Wild Animals.
Due to its rarity, the Rainbow-legged Hummingbird is currently listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List. In 2005, a sponsorship by Swarovski enabled the American Bird Conservancy and the Colombian Fundacion ProAves to establish a protected area in the Rainbow-legged Hummingbird's habitat. The current global population is estimated at between 50 and 250 pairs of adults. It was added to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2009.Protect wild animals and ban the consumption of wild game.
