The short-billed round-tailed shelduck is distributed in South America (including Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and the Falkland Islands), the Pacific Islands (including Taiwan, the Dongsha Islands, Xisha Islands, Zhongsha Islands, and Nansha Islands of China, as well as the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra and Java of Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea), Australia and New Zealand (including Australia, New Zealand, Tasmania and their nearby islands), and the Antarctic region (including the Antarctic continent, the Antarctic Peninsula, and several islands such as the South Shetland Islands and South Georgia Island).

The short-billed round-tailed petrel (scientific name: Aphrodroma brevirostris, English name: Kerguelen Petrel) is a marine bird.

The short-billed round-tailed shelduck primarily feeds on squid, reaching up to 203 grams in size; it also feeds on krill and fish. It is generally quite quiet. The short-billed round-tailed shelduck lives in the ocean and upper water levels, mainly in cold water. It breeds on the ground in swamps.
