Distribution and Habitat
Banshee's petrel is a little-known species that breeds on the southern rocky soil of the Ogasawara Islands, Kasane Islands, and Volcanic Islands in Japan. Their maritime range is considered to be quite localized on these islands (Onley and Scofield 2007).
Appearance
Banshee's petrel is 33 cm long with a wingspan of 64-74 cm and weighs 150-230 grams. This species has tubular nostrils at the base of its beak. Their wings are typically long and narrow, with a streamlined design, allowing for long-distance travel on the high seas. They utilize wave-generated winds and air movement to minimize effort and energy consumption. Banshee's petrels are powerful, easy, and often spectacular flair fliers. Their webbed feet allow them to swim and dive on the surface of the water.
Detailed introduction
Bannerman's Shearwater (scientific name: Puffinus bannermani) was classified as P. lherminieri before 2004, but was reclassified as a separate species in 2014.

Banshee's petrels feed on marine vertebrates and invertebrates, and only come ashore to build their nests at night.

Banbow's petrels are listed as endangered because they appear to occupy a very small range and few locations during breeding season, and their population is believed to be declining due to continued predation by introduced mammals and other potential threats, such as collisions with artificial light sources.
Listed as Endangered (EN) in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species 2018 ver3.1.
