Distribution and Habitat
Arges's Nightjar is found in the mountains of central New Guinea, inhabiting high-altitude areas above 1800 meters.
Appearance
Medium to large in size, approximately 28 cm in length. It lacks a beak and whiskers. The crown is grey, almost entirely covered by broad, spear-shaped black stripes. The collar patch is greyish-brown and indistinct. The back is grey with distinct black markings. The scapular and upper scapular stripes are black patches forming greyish-white bands. The wing coverts are greyish-black with small brownish-yellow spots. The primary and secondary flight feathers are blackish-brown without distinctive markings. The tail feathers are greyish-brown with black transverse bars; the outer tail feathers lack distinctive markings. There is a white patch on each side of the throat. The underparts are blackish-brown with yellowish-white to brownish-yellow spots. Males and females are similar in appearance.

Archbold's Nightjar (scientific name: Eurostopodus archboldi) is a species of hairy-legged nightjar, but its specific habits are unknown.
The breeding season for the Burrowing Nightjar is from March to May. It typically does not nest, laying its eggs on the bare ground in the forest. Each clutch usually contains one egg. The egg is pale creamy yellow to orange-red in color, with a few pale yellow or pale gray spots. The egg measures 35-44 mm × 27-32 mm.
Listed as Least Concern (LC) on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species 2012 ver 3.1.
