Distribution and Habitat
It is distributed in South America (including Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay and the Falkland Islands).
It inhabits only the mountainous regions of western Colombia and Ecuador in South America, and is a unique hummingbird species in these two countries.
Appearance
The toothed hummingbird's plumage is predominantly green. Its long beak allows it to deeply suck nectar from plant flowers. Its false teeth are mainly located at the very tip of the beak, and their primary function is to serve as weapons for males to "fight" with when competing for mates.
Detailed introduction
Tooth-billed Hummingbird, scientifically known as Androdon aequqtorialis, is like other hummingbirds. It mainly feeds on nectar and can hover in mid-air to feed by rapidly vibrating its wings.
