The Kaito Pintail inhabits freshwater lakes, marshes, and streams, migrating to coastal lagoons in winter. It primarily floats on the water's surface, is adept at diving, and forages underwater. Its webbed feet allow it to swim and play in the water, its tail remaining above the surface during swimming. It is skilled at foraging, playing, and courtship in the water. Playing in the water helps maintain feather hygiene and promotes feather growth. Its diet consists mainly of plant seeds and small animals such as crustaceans, shellfish, and worms.
