Distribution and Habitat
It is distributed in Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay.
They inhabit open environments, such as forest edges and jungles.
Appearance
The crown is brown, the tail is long, with the central tail feathers being particularly long. Near the tip, a section consists of only the shaft, causing the tip to form a separate small feather, creating a racket-like shape, which is its most distinctive feature. The wings are short and rounded; the body feathers are mostly bright green, blue, and brown; the sexes are dimorphic.
Detailed introduction
The Brown-capped Motmot, scientifically known as *Baryphthengus ruficapillus*, feeds on insects, worms, lizards, various invertebrates, and small vertebrates, and sometimes also eats fruit. While waiting for prey, it can remain motionless for extended periods, then suddenly pounce upon it. On perches, its tail often swings from side to side or tilts at an angle. It nests in burrows dug along water's edge or on sand using its downward-curving beak, laying 3-4 white eggs, which are incubated and raised by both sexes.
