Detailed introduction
The Middle Spotted Woodpecker, scientifically known as Dendrocoptes medius or Picoides medius, is a species of European woodpecker.

The Intermediate Spotted Woodpecker prefers to forage high in the trees, constantly moving about. It primarily feeds on insects and insect larvae, feeding on branches and twigs rather than under tree bark. It also consumes sap. It rarely taps on tree trunks, using calls to maintain its territory.

During the breeding season, the Central Spotted Woodpecker will dig a hole about 5 cm wide in a decaying tree trunk or a thick branch. It lays 4-7 eggs per clutch, with an incubation period of 11-14 days.

Listed in the IUCN Red List of Birds, version 3.1, 2009.
