Distribution and Habitat
It is distributed in south-central Africa, including the southern Arabian Peninsula and the entire African continent south of the Sahara Desert (Tropic of Cancer).
Appearance
The Blue-headed Bee-eater has a broad stripe below its eye that extends across its chestnut ear coverts and a narrow black forehead stripe; the rest of its head and upper back are chestnut brown; its lower back and wing surface are glossy grass green, with the tips of its innermost flight feathers tinged with blue; the periphery of the first primary flight feather, the tips and inner edges of the remaining flight feathers are blackish-brown; the base of the inner webs and axillaries are reddish-brown; a large wing patch is visible when the wings are spread; its rump and upper tail coverts are pale blue; its tail feathers are dark grass green, with the central pair of outer webs tinged with blue, and the inner webs and tips of the outer pairs of feathers having black edges.
