Distribution and Habitat
It is found in Hainan, China. Internationally, it is distributed in Japan, the Maldives, New Caledonia, and other regions. It inhabits the intertidal zone, burrowing into sandy or muddy bottoms.
Appearance
The snout is small and the collar is long, with a prominent constriction ring in the center of the collar. The wings begin narrowly, widening to the posterior part of the gill area, and then abruptly terminate, after which the wings spread straight out. Near the base, the inner surface of the genital wings has numerous small white epidermal mounds. There is generally a transition zone between the genital wings and the hepatic region. The hepatic sacs in the hepatic region are arranged in two rows.

The fleshy axolotl (scientific name: Balanoglossus carnosus) is an intestinal gill worm distributed in the coastal areas of the western Pacific and northeastern Indian Ocean, belonging to the genus Balanoglossus of the family Balanoglossidae.
It is listed as a Class II protected wild animal in the "List of Key Protected Wild Animals in China".
