Distribution and Habitat
It is found in Hainan, China. Internationally, it is found in Mauritius. It inhabits the intertidal zone, burrowing into sandy or muddy bottoms.
Appearance
The body length is approximately 35 mm. The snout is conical. The gill area is exposed, and a deep groove runs along the central dorsal line, extending to the genital area to form a prominent mid-dorsal ridge. The genital wings are inconspicuous. The hepatic region is clearly defined. A central abdominal groove runs longitudinally through both the gill and genital areas. The anus opens at the center of the posterior end.
Detailed introduction
*Glossobalanus mortenseni* is a species of glossopharynx found along the coast of the Sea of Japan and the coast of China. It belongs to the genus *Glossobalanus* in the family Glossophionidae. It was described and named by the Dutch scholar Cornelius Jan van der Horst in 1932.
It is listed as a Class II protected wild animal in the "List of Key Protected Wild Animals in China".
